Visual and Performing Arts Identification

Visual and Performing Arts Nominations

Do you know of any students in grades K-12 who possess exceptional abilities in art, music, drama or dance?  State law, ORC 3324.03, requires every school district in Ohio to identify students gifted in the visual and performing arts.  Our school districts, supported by the Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center, are working to fulfill this mandate.

To be “gifted” in the arts, a child must perform, or show potential for performing, at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience or environment. The first stop of the identification process is the nomination of student by the parent, teacher or by the student, himself.  The student is then evaluated by an instructor using an approved checklist of behaviors.  The final step is an evaluation of displayed work of performance using an approved scoring rubric.

How to Nominate:

To nominate a student for possible identification, print and complete the Dance, Music, Visual Arts or Drama Nomination Form and mail, email or fax it to Colette Smith at MVESC, 205 N. Seventh St., Zanesville, OH 43701.
