Home-school Information

Parents who are interested in home schooling their child may do so upon meeting requirements of Ohio Law and notifying the local school district superintendent. Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center receives and processes the home-school notifications. For more information, call 740-342-3502 or email homeschool@mvesc.org.

Once all requirements are met, the individual school superintendent will issue a letter to the parent excusing the child from compulsory school attendance. The Home-school Notification form is available by clicking here. Once you have completed the form, please submit it with supporting information to your district of residence.

Important: Parents must renotify their intention to home school EVERY academic year. The academic year is considered August 25 through June 8. Please see the following link for helpful information and requirements. http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Ohio-Education-Options/Home-Schooling.

Curriculum

Once the decision is made to home school your child, you are responsible for choosing and providing the curriculum and course of study you will use for your child’s education. The Ohio Department of Education recommends that you follow Ohio’s academic content standards as a guide. Parents also are responsible to provide results of a standardized test or a written narrative each consecutive year of notification.
