DESCRIPTION:Communication is a two-way process. As such\, the successful implementation of an AAC device depends as much on the skills of the person using AAC as it does on those of the communication partners. This session will provide an overview of the characteristics\, roles\, and responsibilities of communication partners working with people who use AAC\, with a focus on aided language input. Aided language input is a strategy in which the communication partner uses AAC to teach AAC. Participants will have the opportunity to put it to practice through a hands-on activity. \nParticipants will be able to:\n\ndefine aided language input.\ndescribe characteristics\, roles\, and responsibilities of communication partners.\nidentify how to implement AAC in the context of a structured activity.

It is a process that requires a detailed plan and a set of expectations to be implemented to truly support a culture of Literacy. Join Keith McCarroll as he facilitates a walk-through of Ohio’s Literacy Improvement Pathway based on Dr. Timothy Shanahan’s work. Some of the stops on the pathway will be time\, what to teach\, quality of instruction\, interventions\, and parents and families. These sessions will include planning time built in to begin to discuss with team members information gleaned from each session. DESCRIPTION:This presentation will discuss assessment and intervention strategies for children with severe\nspeech sound disorders\, focusing on linguistically based analysis\, target selection\, and\nintervention methods. Practical strategies for implementing assessment and subsequent\ntreatment based on the research of Gierut and colleagues will be reviewed. Mrs. Farnham has\nimplemented this phonologic selection process in a public school setting\, with significant student\nsuccess in a relatively short time. Key components of effective therapy for severe speech sound\ndisorders will be the primary focus of the session.
